Robert Omeljaniuk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Lakehead University. His research focuses on the physiology and cellular biology of the brain-pituitary complex in fishes, particularly examining neurohormone secretion mechanisms, receptor interactions, and intracellular signaling pathways. He teaches courses including Introductory Human Physiology, Comparative Animal Physiology, and Neurobiology.
Education:
- Honors Bachelor of Science (HBSc), University of Manitoba
- Master of Science (MSc), University of Manitoba
- Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), University of Alberta
His work explores how neuroendocrine systems regulate physiological processes in fish, with a focus on steroid hormones and neurotransmitters. Recent studies investigate serotonin and estrogen receptor dynamics in rainbow trout, contributing to understanding reproductive and developmental neuroendocrinology in aquatic species.
Teaching:
- Biology 2030/2035 - Human Physiology
- Biology 3250/3251 - Comparative Animal Physiology
- Biology 4751/4752 - Neurobiology
- Biology 4830 - Endocrinology
- Biology 4850/4855 - Neurochemistry & Pharmacology
He maintains laboratory spaces in CB4013 (office) and CB3005 (lab), focusing on experimental approaches involving radioligand binding assays and neuroendocrine signaling analysis.
