Robert O Apiyo serves as an Assistant Professor in the Communication Department at The University of Tampa, teaching courses including Critical Media Practice, Radio Production, and Podcast Production. His academic credentials include a 2024 Ph.D. from the University of Oregon, 2019 M.A. from the University of Nevada, Reno, and 2013 B.A. from United States International University-Africa.
His research centers on new media and identity formation within diasporic communities, examining intersections of migration, journalism, and global media landscapes. Apiyo employs digital storytelling methodologies to explore cultural representation, with particular emphasis on African diasporas in the United States.
Professional recognition includes six major awards since 2019, notably the Civic and Watchdog Journalism Scholarship (2023) and Oregon Young Promising Scholar Award (2019). His fieldwork spans Kenya, Ghana, and the U.S., featuring conference presentations in France and Canada.
