Robert Norris

Robert Norris is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics at Oxford Brookes University. He transitioned to academia after over thirty years of industry experience as a principal engineer and senior manager at Ricardo UK, bringing substantial practical expertise to his role in educating the next generation of sustainable engineers.

His research focuses on electrification as a solution to climate change, particularly in the domain of battery technologies for electric powertrains. Key areas include electrochemical theory, cell design, physics-based modeling, thermal management, safety systems, manufacturing, and recycling. He is affiliated with the Centre for Batteries, Electric Vehicles and Electronics, where he contributes to cutting-edge research in energy storage systems.

The recent publication trend indicates a strong emphasis on the thermal and physical characterization of Li-ion cells, reflecting a deep engagement with material-level challenges in battery performance and safety. His work bridges engineering science with sustainability goals.

Robert Norris supervises dissertation projects at Levels 6 and 7 as well as PhD candidates, and leads key modules including Management, Reliability, Energy and Sustainability (BEng) and Engineering Business Management (MEng, MSc). He has not received any publicly listed scientific awards. His technical skills span mathematical modeling of mechanical, thermal, and electrical systems, software development, and quality assurance processes.

He is actively involved in both teaching and research and continues to contribute to academic and industrial advancements in sustainable engineering and battery technology.
