Robert N. Lupton is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Connecticut. He also serves as an instructor in the ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research. His research focuses on foundational political predispositions such as ideology, core values, and partisanship, examining their influence on U.S. public opinion and voting behavior. Central to his work are analyses of party coalitions and elite opinion dynamics, particularly among political activists who shape both elected officials' and the public's attitudes.
His scholarly interests span political psychology, political cognition, and comparative political behavior. His peer-reviewed research appears in leading journals including the Journal of Politics, British Journal of Political Science, and Political Psychology. He currently holds an office at Stamford 355 on the UConn Stamford campus and holds weekly office hours on Wednesdays from 2:00-4:00 PM.
