Robert Moyzis is a Visiting Distinguished Professor of Biological Chemistry at Soka University of America. He holds a PhD from Johns Hopkins University and has held prominent roles such as Director of the Center for Human Genome Studies at Los Alamos National Laboratory and Professor at the University of California, Irvine. His research focuses on human genome organization, telomere biology, and the genetic basis of complex disorders like ADHD and Alzheimer’s. Moyzis pioneered the discovery of human telomere sequences and contributed to the Human Genome Project. He has received prestigious awards, including the Los Alamos Medal (2018) and the E.O. Lawrence Presidential Award (1993). His work bridges molecular genetics with evolutionary studies, exploring how cultural factors influence human DNA evolution. Current projects include gene-environment interactions and the role of dopamine receptors in longevity.
- Education: PhD in Biophysics/Molecular Genetics from Johns Hopkins University.
- Research Interests: Human genome evolution, telomere biology, ADHD genetics, and cultural genomics. His lab’s work on Darwinian selection in humans challenges assumptions about modern human evolution, suggesting cultural influences shape genetic changes.
- Grants & Collaborations: Led NIH-funded studies on ADHD genetics and longevity, collaborated with institutions globally, including Beijing Normal University.
- Awards: Includes the Los Alamos Medal, AAAS Fellowship, and multiple NIH grants.
