He joined Penn GSE in 2011 after holding faculty positions in Anthropology and Linguistics at institutions including the National University of Ireland, NYU, Reed College, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Northern Illinois University. His research focuses on sociolinguistics, language obsolescence, heritage language maintenance, and the politics of multilingualism in Europe and the U.S., with fieldwork in the Warm Springs Reservation (Oregon, USA) and contemporary Ireland.
Professional Background: Prior to Penn GSE, Moore held research roles at Dublin City University (2007–2008) and the University of Chicago (2002–2003). His interdisciplinary work bridges anthropology, linguistics, and policy studies, addressing topics such as accent politics in Irish English and the cultural history of American Indians in the Pacific Northwest.
Research Contributions: Moore’s publications critique discourse around language endangerment, analyze multilingualism policies, and explore branding semiotics. His ethnographic projects emphasize community-driven language revitalization and sociopolitical dimensions of linguistic identity.
