Robert Miller is the Richard M. Cyert and Morris DeGroot Professor of Economics and Statistics at Carnegie Mellon University's Tepper School of Business. A world-renowned expert in structural econometrics, his research focuses on dynamic discrete choice models with applications spanning labor markets, executive compensation, financial markets, and innovation economics. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago (1982) and a B.Ec. from Australian National University (1977).
Miller's research interests center on developing and applying structural econometric methods to understand complex economic behaviors. His pioneering work includes Conditional Choice Probability (CCP) estimators for dynamic discrete choice problems, analysis of executive labor markets, and modeling of innovation diffusion. Current work explores job matching processes, family succession planning, and long-term contracting.
His publications demonstrate a consistent focus on structural estimation methodologies applied to labor economics and market design, with recent work examining homeownership determinants, government procurement, and healthcare innovation diffusion.
