Robert McPherson is an Adjunct Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Victoria and a Principal Research Scientist at TRIUMF Laboratory in Vancouver, BC. He holds a PhD from Princeton University and specializes in experimental particle physics. His research focuses on detector development, electroweak physics, and the ATLAS experiment at CERN. McPherson has contributed to the design and testing of ATLAS calorimeters and held roles such as Data Quality coordinator for the Liquid Argon Calorimeter. He previously worked on the OPAL experiment at CERN and E787 at BNL.
Education: PhD (Princeton University).
Research interests include advancing particle detection technologies and analyzing high-energy collision data from the Large Hadron Collider. His work on the ATLAS experiment aims to uncover fundamental physics principles through precise measurements of particle interactions. Current projects involve the ongoing analysis of data from the ATLAS detector and mentorship of graduate students in experimental particle physics.
Advising and grants: Supervises current MSc students (Claire David, Alison Elliot, Matthew LeBlanc) and has mentored postdoctoral researchers including Vikas Bansal, Florian Bernlochner, and Alex Martyniuk. His research is supported through collaborations with institutions like TRIUMF and CERN.
