Robert Marsh is a Senior Lecturer III in Biological Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), affiliated with the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University (1971) and a B.S. in Chemistry and Mathematics from Western Kentucky University (1965).
His research focuses on subcellular structure, particularly transglutaminase enzymes and their roles in Physarum polycephalum. Key projects include studying nuclear matrix proteins, cell surface lectins, and the biochemical mechanisms of protein cross-linking. His work explores how these processes contribute to cellular damage response and protein stabilization.
Marsh has been actively involved in academic service, including roles on the Biology Undergraduate Education Committee, Radiation Safety Committee, and Institutional Biosafety Committee. He has supervised over 15 M.S. students and secured grants from NIH and NSF to support research on tectonins and nucleolar structure.
Publications highlight collaborations on transglutaminase characterization, Physarum protein localization, and DNA cloning techniques. His findings advance understanding of enzyme activity, cellular defense mechanisms, and evolutionary protein functions across organisms.
