Robert Mars is a Researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research, where he leads the Marine Measurement Technology Working Group and manages the IOW-MARNET network since 2016. His work focuses on the maintenance, development, and data validation of oceanographic instrumentation systems across multiple MARNET stations.
Education:
- B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Specialization: Microelectronics and Communication Technology), University of Rostock (2008–2012)
- M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering (Specialization: Microelectronics and Communication Technology), University of Rostock (2012–2013)
Research Expertise: Marine instrumentation design, CTD/IT engineering, RS232/RS485 interface development, software engineering in C#, .NET MVC, HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, Python, and MATLAB, with applications in physical oceanography and environmental monitoring.
Technical Leadership: Oversees MARNET stations in the Arkona Basin, Darss Sill, and Oder Bank, managing hourly data transmission, 10-minute measurement intervals, and 1 km² bottom area mooring systems.
Operational Scope: Works with laboratory settings, small boats, and piers, utilizing discus/spar buoys, portable CTD systems, and winch mechanisms with depth counters.
