Robert Llizo is an Associate Professor of History at Houston Christian University’s College of Arts and Humanities. His work focuses on Medieval and Early Modern European History, European Intellectual History (Aquinas to Descartes), Medieval Spain, and Christian-Muslim relations during the Medieval period. He teaches courses in the Honors and History programs, including Western Civilization, Great Books, and specialized seminars on the Medieval and Renaissance worlds.
Research Interests: Llizo’s scholarship bridges theology, philosophy, and history, emphasizing the interplay between classical thought and Christian doctrine. His research explores themes like the Beatific Vision in Aquinas, the intersection of faith and poetry in Dante’s Purgatorio, and the adaptation of Greek philosophy within early Christian frameworks. He also investigates medieval apologetics, monastic traditions, and the cultural dynamics of Tudor/Stuart England and medieval Iberia.
Publications and Presentations: Recent engagements include a 2024 lecture on Dante’s Purgatorio at the International Theological Institute, a 2021 presentation at Cornell’s Summer Colloquium in Medieval Philosophy, and 2019 contributions to the Perichoresis journal and Compton College lecture series on the Song of El Cid. His authored and translated book chapters, including works on Robert de Sorbon’s De Matrimonium and the Companion to Priesthood and Holy Orders in the Middle Ages, reflect his expertise in medieval religious structures and intellectual traditions.
