Robert Lightfoot is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at Texas A&M University, part of the College of Engineering. His academic background includes a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Engineering from Texas A&M, an M.S. in Software Engineering from Southern Methodist University, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Texas A&M.
His research focuses on computer science education and the human elements of cybersecurity, with a particular interest in integrating AI tools into classroom settings and improving competency-based grading systems. He has received several awards, including the TAMU Open Education Champion Award (2024) and the DSC Higher Education Award.
Lightfoot has taught numerous courses, including CSCE 111 (Introduction to Computer Science), CSCE 412 (Cloud Computing), and CSCE 431 (Software Engineering). He has also led study abroad programs in Singapore, Barcelona, and Greece, emphasizing global collaboration in technology education.
His publications explore topics like assignment choice in engineering courses, dashboard integration in design education, and the impact of prerequisites on computer science curricula. He has advised on projects related to course etiquette during the pandemic and competency-based education frameworks.
