Robert Lally is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at Syracuse University's College of Arts & Sciences. He specializes in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) education, with a focus on academic and professional English instruction. He holds a CAS in Language Teaching (TESOL/TLOTE) from Syracuse University (2016), an MA in History from the University of Massachusetts, Boston (2007), and a BA in History from Sonoma State University (1992).
His research interests include multilingual classroom practices, technology integration in language education, and task-based learning methodologies. He has presented at international conferences such as AILA and TESOL, focusing on topics like L1-L2 classroom dynamics and collaborative research in language education.
Lally teaches courses in academic writing, oral communication for international teaching assistants, and discipline-specific communication for STEM graduate students. He actively contributes to Syracuse's International Teaching Assistant program and has developed specialized courses for graduate students in STEM fields. His teaching spans locations including Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, China, Japan, and the U.S.
Recent professional service includes roles as a Fulbright Fellowship evaluator, ENL program meetings participant, and member of the LLL departmental teaching professor promotion committee. He has also volunteered for campus events like Cultures on The Quad.
