Robert Israel

Robert Israel is a Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He has been a faculty member since 1969 and currently serves as Chair of Quality Improvement and Director of Women’s Health Clinics.

• Harvard College BA in English and Anthropology
• MD from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine
• Residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital

His research focuses on reproductive health, including endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and opioid-induced constipation. He has pioneered clinical applications of methylnaltrexone, with over 15 peer-reviewed publications on its efficacy in palliative care and chronic pain management.

Major contributions include establishing USC’s first Infertility Clinic and founding the department’s alumni association. He leads national societies like the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society and Pacific Coast Obstetrical and Gynecological Society.

Outside academia, Dr. Israel is a marathoner and board member of A Noise Within, a classical theater company in Los Angeles.
