Dr. Robert Hunter is a Research Fellow in the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of St Andrews. His work focuses on advanced materials and spectroscopic techniques, with a particular emphasis on metasurfaces and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. He has contributed to the development of flexible holographic metasurfaces for imaging and sensing applications, as well as innovations in high-frequency EPR spectrometers to improve distance measurements between spin labels. His research bridges quantum physics, materials science, and biophysics, addressing challenges in molecular imaging and dynamic nuclear polarization.
Key research areas include:
- Design and application of metasurfaces for optical and sensing systems
- High-resolution DEER (Double Electron-Electron Resonance) methodologies
- Development of spin labels and EPR instrumentation
- High-frequency dynamic nuclear polarization techniques
Notable contributions include the robustness analysis of Gd(III)-Gd(III) DEER measurements and the creation of mechanically tunable conformable metasurfaces. His work has implications for biomedical research, quantum technologies, and advanced optoelectronic devices.
