Robert Hartwig

Robert Hartwig is Clinical Associate Professor of Finance and Director of the Risk and Uncertainty Management Center at the University of South Carolina's Darla Moore School of Business. With a PhD in Economics from University of Illinois, his research examines insurance markets, risk transfer mechanisms, regulatory frameworks, and emerging risks including pandemic exposure and cyber threats.

Hartwig brings extensive industry experience as former president of the Insurance Information Institute (2007-2016), where he directed research and advocacy for the property/casualty insurance sector. His work informs policymakers through expert testimony before congressional committees and regulatory bodies. Current research investigates insurability challenges for systemic risks, alternative capital flows, and technological disruption in insurance markets.
