His work employs registry-based studies and longitudinal analyses to evaluate program effectiveness, such as the national study on compulsory care outcomes (2012–2015) and the 2023 evaluation of the 'Effektiv Planering av Insatser/EPI' course. Grahn frequently collaborates with institutions like the Umeå Centre for Evaluation Research, producing reports on critical realism in social work methodology and organizational barriers in addiction care.
Publications span topics like the association between civil commitment and imprisonment (2022), demographic disparities in treatment outcomes (2023), and the role of psychosocial environments in addiction trajectories (2020). His research emphasizes evidence-based policy development and system improvements in healthcare and criminal justice sectors.
