معرفی
Dr. Robert Grabowski is a Reader in Catchment Science at the Cranfield Water Science Institute, Cranfield University. He specializes in interdisciplinary river science, integrating geomorphology, ecology, water quality, and land-water management. He contributes to teaching in MSc Water & Jiangsu programmes and supervises multiple PhD students.
Research Interests: His work focuses on three core areas: (1) erosion and transport of fine sediments and contaminants, (2) geomorphology-ecology interactions in river-floodplain systems, and (3) river rehabilitation. He increasingly links these to social and economic dimensions to support sustainable development goals and participatory governance.
The most recent publications reflect a strong trend in interdisciplinary catchment science, combining physical processes (sediment transport, erosion modeling) with ecological indicators (biofilms, biodiversity), environmental governance (Rights of Nature), and climate resilience. There is a clear emphasis on nature-based solutions, pollution diagnostics, and integrating social sciences into environmental management.
Scientific Awards and Recognition:
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
- Member, NERC Peer Review College (2023–present)
- Editorial Board, River Research and Applications (2017–present)
- Committee Member, Foundation for Water Research (2023–present)
Advising and Grants: Dr. Grabowski supervises several PhD students funded by Leverhulme, NERC, and industry. He has led and co-investigated numerous grants from UKRI (NERC, EPSRC, ESRC, AHRC), EU (Marie Sklodowska-Curie), and government agencies. Notable projects include DEFRAG (NERC), Connected Waters (Leverhulme), and Rights of Nature (AHRC).
Labs and Research Groups: He leads a research group focused on fluvial geomorphology and catchment science, working on projects like riverbed biofilms as health indicators and participatory governance for climate resilience. His work involves field surveys, statistical modeling, and molecular dynamics simulations.
