Robert Gildea is a Professor of Modern History at Worcester College, University of Oxford. His research focuses on French and European history from the 19th to 21st centuries, emphasizing transnational resistance movements, memory studies, and colonial legacies. He has directed major international projects, including oral histories of Europe’s 1968 protests and transnational resistance during WWII. His work challenges national historiographical frameworks, advocating for global and comparative approaches.

Current projects include an oral history of the 1984-85 UK Miners’ Strike and transnational resistance studies.
