Robert Fogerty, MD, MPH, SFHM is an Associate Clinical Professor in General Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and Senior Medical Director, Clinical Leadership at Yale New Haven Hospital. He joined Yale faculty in 2011 as a founding member of the Academic Hospitalist Program. His work focuses on improving inpatient care quality, cost-effectiveness, and healthcare system efficiency. He completed his MD and MPH at Northwestern University and Internal Medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Dr. Fogerty’s research emphasizes patient safety, healthcare value, and hospital capacity management. Notable contributions include innovations in influenza surge response (converting unused spaces to clinical units), opioid standardization to reduce overuse, and pandemic capacity expansion during the 2020 crisis. He co-founded the Hospital Capacity Management Consortium and leads national initiatives like the High Value Practice Academic Alliance’s training programs.
His awards include the Society of Hospital Medicine’s Senior Fellow designation and the ABIM Foundation’s 'Teaching Value' competition win. He actively contributes to medical education through lectures and workshops on value-based care and systems improvement.
