Robert Edward Schwartz, M.D., Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and an Attending Physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital's Cornell campus. A graduate of Cooper Union (B.E. 1999), University of Minnesota (M.D. and Ph.D. 2006), he completed Internal Medicine residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Gastroenterology/Hepatology fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital. His clinical focus includes liver diseases such as viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, and metabolic liver disorders.

Dr. Schwartz's research develops human liver disease models in vitro using stem cell biology and engineering techniques. His work spans:

- Spaceflight-induced mitochondrial stress

He holds advisory roles at Lime Therapeutics and Miromatrix Medical Inc., with prior consultation at Alnylam Pharmaceuticals. Active grants include NIH/NIDDK-funded research on epithelial-mesenchymal crosstalk in liver disease and NASA collaborations on spaceflight countermeasures.
