Robert Dean is the McWane Endowed Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, Auburn University. He holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering, all from Auburn University.
His research focuses on sensors, instrumentation, MEMS, packaging, chaos electronics, and photovoltaics. He teaches core and advanced courses including Digital Electronics, Solid-State Sensors, MEMS Technology, Photovoltaics, and Chaotic Oscillators, maintaining comprehensive course websites with lecture notes, syllabi, and student projects.
Dean was honored as the IMAPS Outstanding Educator for 2023, highlighting his excellence in engineering education. His students regularly engage in research presentations, particularly in hybrid power systems, space applications of photovoltaics, and sensor technologies.

He advises numerous graduate students and integrates research into advanced coursework. His professional affiliations include IEEE, ASME, IMAPS, SMTA, and SPIE. Outside academia, he enjoys outdoor activities and family time, and is active in his local church community.
