Robert D. Brooks is an Associated Faculty member in Jazz Studies at The Ohio State University's School of Music. Specializing in jazz saxophone and pedagogy, he holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) and Master of Music (MM) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a Bachelor of Music (BM) from Central Michigan University.
His expertise spans jazz improvisation, classical woodwind performance, and ensemble coaching. He actively performs with groups like Reginald Chapman’s “Pressure Fit” and has collaborated with jazz legends such as Bob Mintzer and Bobby Shew. Brooks is also a pit orchestral musician for Broadway tours like Kinky Boots and Chicago.
At Ohio State, he teaches Jazz Improvisation, directs the Ohio State Honor Jazz Band Weekend, and coaches the Video Game Soundtrack jazz combo. His recent albums Accidental Nomad and New Standard Duo have garnered acclaim on Ropeadope Records.
