Robert Coalson

Robert Coalson is a Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh, holding a secondary appointment in the Dietrich School. His research focuses on quantum dynamics theory, colloid science, and optical waveguide design. He received the Chancellor's Distinguished Research Award in 2006.

His quantum dynamics work investigates condensed-phase systems, including resonance Raman spectra, electron transfer, and laser field effects. Colloid science research examines charged polystyrene sphere suspensions, phase transitions, and novel material structures. Waveguide studies involve GaAs-based materials and optimal design theories.

Coalson has contributed to interdisciplinary fields such as nanoparticle-polymer interactions, cellular transport mechanisms, and smart material engineering. His computational methods address challenges in wavepacket dynamics, inter-particle forces, and optical absorption modeling.
