Robert Ciminski serves as a Nursing Instructor at Western Nevada College (WNC), where he teaches in the Nursing program. A 2013 graduate of WNC's nursing program, he returned to his alma mater in 2019 to mentor current students. As a Navy veteran and former carpenter from a working-class background, Ciminski brings unique life experiences to his academic role.
His educational credentials include a Master of Science from Western Governors University. Ciminski's teaching philosophy emphasizes structured, hands-on learning environments where he demonstrates clinical skills at the bedside before guiding students through group and individual practice. He prioritizes creating calm, engaging classrooms that reduce student anxiety through humor and clear organization.
Ciminski's professional focus centers on Nursing Education and Patient Education, viewing teaching as fundamental to nursing practice. He argues that patient education bridges clinical skills and health outcomes, addressing public knowledge gaps. His military nursing perspective informs his approach to resilience training, while his experience as a male nurse shapes his advocacy for diversity in healthcare education.
As an advisor, Ciminski supports non-traditional students through their academic journeys, drawing from his own path from carpentry to nursing. He actively encourages male students to pursue nursing careers, emphasizing complementary skill sets in patient care teams. His mentorship focuses on overcoming imposter syndrome and building clinical confidence through practical experience.
Outside academia, Ciminski applies his carpentry skills to home construction and practices therapeutic crocheting—a stress management technique he learned during nursing school with his wife. His Navy service aboard the USS Roosevelt in the Middle East instilled discipline that prepared him for academic success, though he distinguishes his carrier-based deployment from ground combat roles.
