Robert Biff Edge is an Associate Professor of Theatre at Winthrop University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, where he serves as Technical Director. His academic responsibilities include teaching courses such as Introduction to Production, Sound Design, Drafting, Scenic Studio Practicum, and Stagecraft. He is also actively engaged in scenic and lighting design for department productions.
Education:
- M.F.A. in Scenic Design from the University of Tennessee
- B.A. in Theatre from Winthrop University
- B.S. in Political Science from Winthrop University
Edge’s professional expertise lies in theatrical design and production, with a focus on sound design, scenic design, stagecraft, and technical direction. His work emphasizes practical application and innovation in theatrical spaces. Prior to his current role, he spent four years (until 2007) as Technical Director and Production Manager at Theatre Charlotte, designing sets and lights for four of five mainstage productions annually.
Edge has collaborated with theatre institutions nationwide, including Actor’s Theatre of Charlotte, Cumberland County Playhouse, Clarence Brown Theatre, Bijou Theatre, and Depot Theatre. He also studied abroad under notable figures such as Jean Guy Lecat and Petr Matasek, enriching his technical and artistic methodologies.
