Robert Bellin is a Professor and Dean for the Class of 2028 at the College of the Holy Cross, where he also serves as Co-Director of the Biochemistry Program. He holds a Ph.D. from Iowa State University and leads a research group focused on the biochemistry of syndecan proteins, particularly their roles in focal adhesion formation, mechanotransduction, neurofibromatosis type-2, and breast cancer. His work employs techniques such as protein purification, microscopy, and molecular interaction assays.
Key research interests include the interplay between extracellular matrix mechanics and disease progression, with publications spanning mechanobiology, cancer biology, and biomedical engineering. He has contributed to undergraduate education through innovative lab projects and curriculum development, including the Holy Cross Biochemistry program's four-year research-focused structure.
Recent work explores syndecan-1's role in mammary tumor formation and the development of 3D-printed cell growth surfaces. Bellin collaborates extensively, with co-authored studies on fibronectin reorganization under mechanical stress and the molecular basis of cell adhesion complexes.
