Associate Professor Low Boon Chuan leads the Cell-Matrix and Cell-Cell Mechanotransduction Group at the Mechanobiology Institute (MBI) and the Department of Biological Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS). His research deciphers how protein domains (e.g., the BCH domain) regulate cellular mechanotransduction, signaling pathways, and tissue development in health and disease.
Research interests span cell signaling, mechanobiology, and structural biology, with applications in cancer metastasis, cardiac differentiation, and neurological disorders. Key focuses include Rho/Ras GTPase regulation, scaffolding proteins, and cellular responses to mechanical forces.
Recent publications (2020–2025) emphasize mechanotransduction in disease, covering cardiac development, cancer resilience, and neural interfaces. Trends include scaffolding protein functions, CRISPR-based screens, and 3D biomechanical models.
He mentors PhD students and research fellows in diverse projects, from focal adhesion dynamics to glioma mechanisms. His lab collaborates extensively with clinical and engineering teams to bridge molecular discoveries with therapeutic applications.
