Robert Barnes serves as a part-time Professor of Law at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law while concurrently working as an associate lawyer and manager at KPMG Law LLP and KPMG Canada.
He earned his J.D. from the University of Ottawa's English common law program and was called to the bar of Ontario in 2021 after articling at the Department of Justice.
Professor Barnes specializes in practical legal negotiation techniques with strong applications in corporate law contexts. His teaching focuses on developing real-world advocacy skills through structured negotiation frameworks, emphasizing both theoretical foundations and experiential learning methodologies in legal dispute resolution.
At the Faculty of Law, he teaches the core Negotiation course and provides hands-on coaching for the prestigious Walsh Negotiation Competition and Canadian National Negotiation Competition, mentoring students in competitive advocacy strategies and professional negotiation tactics.
