Robert Banh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine. His research focuses on how nutrients and mRNA translation regulate human health, disease, and cancer, particularly pancreatic cancer. He leads the Banh Lab at the Alexandria Center for Life Sciences in New York City.
- PhD from University of Toronto
- Postdoctoral training at NYU Perlmutter Cancer Center (Kimmelman and Pacold Labs)
Research interests span nutrient-driven mRNA translation, genetic diversity, oxygen metabolism, and amino acid regulation in disease. His lab develops innovative tools to study these processes and employs multi-disciplinary approaches including molecular genetics, metabolism, immunology, and mouse models of disease.
Recent publications highlight work on nutrient microenvironments in pancreatic cancer, mitochondrial encephalopathy therapies, and ubiquitination mechanisms. Awards include the Damon Runyon Dale F Frey Award for Breakthrough Scientists.
- Scientific awards
- Damon Runyon Dale F Frey Award for Breakthrough Scientists
Key collaborations include researchers at NYU Langone Health and Columbia University. The lab investigates amino acid metabolism, oxygen signaling, and metabolic vulnerabilities in cancer progression.
