Dr. Robert Ashman is an Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Dentistry at the University of Queensland (UQ), affiliated with the Centre for Orofacial Regeneration, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation (COR3). His research focuses on understanding immune responses to fungal pathogens, particularly Candida albicans, and their role in oral and systemic infections.
Dr. Ashman's work spans innate and adaptive immunity, cytokine regulation, and host-pathogen interactions. He has contributed to studies on the Mincle receptor's role in immune responses to Candida, the impact of genetic factors on susceptibility, and protective vaccine strategies using antigens like enolase. His interdisciplinary research bridges immunology, microbiology, and dentistry.
Key publications include investigations into Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs) in Candida virulence, Mincle-mediated immune pathways in CNS injury, and strain-specific immune responses. His findings highlight the interplay between host genetics, cytokine networks, and pathogen biology.
Dr. Ashman has presented at major conferences such as the International Conference on Oral Immunology and the ASM Conference on Candida. His research contributes to advancing therapies for fungal infections and understanding immune dysregulation in chronic conditions.
