Robbie Davis-Floyd

Robbie Davis-Floyd, PhD, is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Rice University since 2020. Her research spans multiple subfields including medical/reproductive anthropology, interpretive/symbolic anthropology, science and technology studies, and futures research.

• Medical/reproductive anthropology: Focused on childbirth, midwifery, and biomedicine as cultural systems.
• Interpretive/symbolic anthropology: Analyzes belief systems, ritual, and mythologies of science and technology.
• Science and technology studies: Explores the ARTs, aerospace industry, and early NASA history.
• Futures research: Investigates emergent cultural systems, techno-sapiens evolution, and global midwifery trends.
• Regional expertise: The U.S., Mexico, and Brazil.

Her recent work includes the 2021 edited volume Birthing Models on the Human Rights Frontier and the 2021 special issue of Frontiers in Sociology on maternity care during the pandemic. She offers live-in internships for students and consulting services, emphasizing interdisciplinary outreach.
