Professor Rob Wilby is a Professor of Hydroclimatic Modelling at Loughborough University, where he has held this position since 2008. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Federation University, Australia, and has held roles such as Associate Dean for Research in the School of Social, Political and Geographical Sciences (2011–2013). His academic career includes positions at King’s College London, University of Derby, and affiliations with institutions like the National Center for Atmospheric Research.
Wilby holds a BSc and PhD from Loughborough University. His research focuses on climate change impacts, extreme weather events, and water resource management, with a strong emphasis on hydroclimatic modelling and adaptation strategies. He has contributed to pivotal studies on drought dynamics, urban climate resilience, and flood risk management.
His publications bridge climate science and practical applications, addressing topics like extreme rainfall scaling in the UK, AI in geographic research, and urbanization effects on rainfall extremes. He has edited journals such as the Geographical Journal and served on panels for climate policy and education.
Wilby’s work extends to interdisciplinary collaborations, including climate risk analysis for vulnerable populations and evaluating emergency service provision under climate change. He actively engages in policy, having chaired the Climate Change Working Group for EDF/British Energy and advised on climate science for local governments in the UK and Ireland.
