Rob Nixon

Rob Nixon is the Thomas A. and Currie C. Barron Family Professor in Humanities and the Environment at Princeton University, holding dual appointments in the Department of English and the High Meadows Environmental Institute. He previously held the Rachel Carson Professorship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Nixon’s research bridges environmental studies, postcolonial studies, and contemporary literature, with a focus on environmental justice, climate change, and the interface between environmental humanities and public engagement.

His education includes a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Nixon has authored influential works such as Slow Violence and the Environmentalism of the Poor, which earned him multiple awards, including the American Book Award and the ASLE Award. His writing appears in prestigious outlets like The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, and London Review of Books.

He has received notable fellowships, including the Fulbright-Hays and MacArthur Foundation Peace and Security Fellowships, and contributed to global initiatives like the Princeton Environmental Institute’s environmental humanities program. Nixon advocates for interdisciplinary approaches to environmental challenges, emphasizing marginalized voices and transnational perspectives.
