Rob Kitchin is a Professor and ERC Advanced Investigator at Maynooth University's National Institute of Regional and Spatial Analysis (NIRSA), Ireland. He holds a joint affiliation with the Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute. His research focuses on digital technologies' societal impacts, smart cities, and socio-technical systems. He leads major projects such as the ERC-funded 'Programmable City' and co-leads the SFI-funded 'Building City Dashboards' initiative.
Dr. Kitchin has authored/co-authored over 200 articles and 30 books, including Code/Space, The Data Revolution, and How to Run a City Like Amazon and Other Fables. He has edited major works like the 12-volume International Encyclopedia of Human Geography and served as editor for top journals like Progress in Human Geography and Dialogues in Human Geography.
He received the Royal Irish Academy’s Gold Medal for the Social Sciences in recognition of his contributions. His work bridges urban studies, digital humanities, and critical data studies, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to understanding technology's spatial and social dimensions.
