Dr. Rob Harrap is an Adjunct Professor at Queen's University's Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering, Faculty of Arts and Science. His research focuses on integrating emerging technologies like LiDAR, GIS, augmented reality, and game design into geosciences and urban planning. He holds a B.Sc. from Queen's University and an M.Sc. in Cordilleran Tectonics from Carleton University.
His work emphasizes computational tools for field data capture and analysis, with applications in natural hazards, environmental sustainability, and educational gaming. Notable projects include the Georgia Basin Digital Library and LiDAR-based hazard assessment systems. He teaches courses on GIS, 3D visualization, and worldbuilding for creative industries. Currently, his SSHRC-funded research explores climate change narratives through medieval England-themed educational games.
Dr. Harrap collaborates with industry, military, and academic partners, advancing geodesign and geomatics. His contributions include optimizing LiDAR workflows for rockfall hazard analysis and promoting interdisciplinary approaches to geoscience challenges.
