Professor Rob Drummond is a Professor of Sociolinguistics and Research Environment Lead for English and Linguistics at Manchester Metropolitan University. He specializes in sociolinguistics, focusing on language variation, identity, and accent perception. His work includes the Manchester Voices project studying local dialects and the Accentism Project addressing linguistic discrimination. He teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervising PhD students in areas like youth language and dialect acquisition.
Drummond holds a PhD in Linguistics (2010) from the University of Manchester, alongside MA and BA degrees. His research explores sociolinguistic variation in second languages, youth language patterns, and the role of accent in identity construction. He serves on academic committees including the AHRC peer review college and previously led the Manchester Centre for Youth Studies.
