Rob Cullum is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at King's College London (KCL), affiliated with the Ax:son Johnson Institute for Statecraft and Diplomacy. He holds an academic base in the Department of War Studies within the School of Security Studies, Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. His research focuses on climate change’s intersection with national security and Indo-Pacific strategic dynamics. Previously, he served as a Lecturer in Defence Studies Education at KCL, teaching international relations and military history to trainee staff officers.
Rob earned his PhD from Aberystwyth University’s International Politics Department, researching naval responses to climate change in the US, UK, and Australia. He currently leads a project examining climate change’s impact on Indo-Pacific order and the securitization of climate issues. He is part of three research hubs: the Centre for Grand Strategy (focusing on statecraft and foreign policy), the Environmental Security research group (bridging security and environmental studies), and the Centre for Integrated Research in Risk & Resilience.
Notable contributions include participation in the New Voices in Global Security seminar series (e.g., a 2024 discussion on contemporary international relations). His work emphasizes historical and strategic perspectives to address modern security challenges.
