Dr. Rob Bower is a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of School (Teaching and Learning) at the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation, University of Technology Sydney (UTS), where he has served since 1994. He also holds roles as Director of Studies for UTS's Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science and Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Management degrees (2004–2020). His academic background includes a PhD in Sports Engineering (UTS, 2008), a Master of Applied Science in Exercise and Sport Science (University of Sydney, 1996), and a Bachelor of Education in Physical Education and Mathematics (UTS, 1990).
Research interests focus on sporting equipment design and biomechanics, particularly tennis rackets, cricket bats, and baseball swings. He has investigated injury prevention in sports like Australian football and netball, emphasizing vertical stiffness and lower body mechanics. His work bridges sports engineering, biomechanics, and applied sport science.
