Dr. Max Stuelcken is a Lecturer in Sports Science (Biomechanics) at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC), within the School of Health. He holds a BSc(SportSci) (Merit), MHlthSci (Hons), and PhD from Sydney universities. Prior to USC, he worked at the University of Sydney as an Associate Lecturer and Research Assistant. His research focuses on biomechanical links to injury prevention in sports like cricket, netball, swimming, and rugby. He has secured grants, including A$6,486 from Queensland Academy of Sport (2015) and A$35,610 from Cricket Australia (2003).
He has extensive industry experience at the Australian and NSW Institutes of Sport, specializing in sports science for elite athletes. He is accredited by Swimming Australia (2006-2010) for competition analysis. Professional memberships include Sports Medicine Australia and the International Society of Biomechanics in Sport.
Teaching expertise includes Biomechanics, Functional Anatomy, and Ergonomics at undergraduate/postgraduate levels. His research areas encompass injury surveillance, movement variability, and postural control. Notable projects include investigating ankle instability in netballers and fast bowling injury mechanisms.
Publications span metabolic flexibility, spinal alignment, and sports injury mechanisms. He emphasizes standardized protocols for clinical assessments and biomechanical interventions to improve athlete safety and performance.
