R.J.M. (Rob) Alessie is a Professor of Micro-econometrics at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen. He specializes in micro-econometrics, consumer economics, household saving behavior, and the economics of ageing. His research focuses on understanding economic decision-making at the individual and household levels, particularly in areas like intergenerational transfers, labor markets, and health economics.
He holds several academic positions, including Fellow of Netspar, CEPR fellow in the household finance network, Extramural Fellow at CentER (Tilburg University), and Member of the Editorial Board of Empirical Economics. His research also involves collaborations with institutions like ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research.
Key research interests include analyzing the economic determinants of health outcomes, the impact of financial literacy on consumer behavior, and the role of early-life conditions on later-life outcomes. His recent work explores topics such as parental transfers, retirement savings adequacy, and the effects of economic policies on household decisions.
Teaching responsibilities include courses like Empirical Econometrics, Applied Microeconometrics, and Microeconomic Models of Consumption. He has extensive experience in mentoring students, including supervision of bachelor’s and master’s theses.
