Rizal Sukma

Rizal Sukma is a prominent academic and policy expert affiliated with Australian National University (ANU) National Security College as a Professor, and serves as Executive Director at the Centre for East Asian Studies, Prasetiya Mulya University. He holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and has over three decades of experience in strategic studies, defense policy, and Southeast Asian geopolitics.

His research focuses on Indonesia's foreign policy, ASEAN's role in regional security, military reform, and the intersection of Islam and politics. His publications reflect these themes, particularly analyzing conflict resolution in Aceh, religious influence in diplomacy, and Indonesia-China relations.

Scientific awards include:

• 100 Global Thinkers by Foreign Policy (2009)

He also contributes to global governance as a member of the International IDEA Advisory Board (2024–2027) and chairs Indonesia's National Commission for UNESCO (2025 onward).
