Rishi R Lulla

Rishi R Lulla is the Alan G Hassenfeld Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of Pediatrics at Brown University's Warren Alpert Medical School. He serves as the division director of pediatric hematology/oncology at Hasbro Children's Hospital and is recognized as an international expert in the care of children and young adults with brain and spinal cord tumors.

Dr. Lulla completed his medical education at Boston University School of Medicine, earning his MD in 2003. He furthered his training with an MS from Northwestern University in 2010. His residency and fellowship were completed at Northwestern University in Chicago before he joined the pediatric neuro-oncology team at Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

Dr. Lulla's research focuses on translating laboratory findings into novel treatments for children with brain and spinal cord tumors. His work spans pediatric neuro-oncology with particular emphasis on diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, medulloblastoma, and other central nervous system tumors in children. He has presented his findings on pediatric central nervous system tumors at local, national, and international conferences and serves as principal investigator for multiple grant-sponsored research investigations.

Analysis of Dr. Lulla's publication record reveals a strong focus on molecular mechanisms of pediatric brain tumors, particularly histone mutations in diffuse midline gliomas. His work integrates molecular diagnostics, targeted therapies, and innovative treatment approaches including immunotherapy and epigenetic modulation. A significant portion of his research addresses the challenge of delivering effective treatments across the blood-brain barrier, with notable contributions to understanding tumor vasculature and radiosensitization approaches.
