Risa Horowitz is a Professor in the Department of Visual Arts within the Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance at the University of Regina. An active artist-educator with national and international exhibition experience, her practice spans photography, video, painting, performance, installation, and creative writing, supported by numerous federal and provincial arts grants.

Horowitz's research critically engages with landscape theory, time representation, and art-science intersections. She is renowned for Arctic projects like her Practicing Standing series created during Svalbard residencies, examining isolation, resilience, and human-environment relationships through durational practices.
Her recent creative output (2016-2023) reveals a cohesive exploration of astronomical phenomena and environmental change, notably the Trees of Canada paintings and star-field landscapes. This body of work demonstrates methodological innovation through immersive video, field research, and cross-cultural exhibitions.
