Rinat Abzalimov

Rinat Abzalimov, Ph.D., holds roles as Director of the Mass Spectrometry Facility, Co-Director of the MALDI-TOF MS Imaging Facility, and Research Associate Professor in the Structural Biology Initiative at CUNY's Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC). He previously served as Assistant Director of the Mass Spectrometry Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His academic background includes a Ph.D. from the Ufa Research Center of RAS (Russia) and a B.Sc. from Bashkir State University (Russia).

Abzalimov’s research focuses on advancing mass spectrometry-based technologies for studying protein structure, conformational dynamics, and interactions, with applications in biopharmaceutical stability and lipidomics. He pioneers techniques like asymmetric traveling wave ion mobility spectrometry for analyzing complex biological mixtures. His work bridges analytical chemistry and structural biology, supporting both academic and industrial research through CUNY’s Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry Facility.

Publications highlight his contributions to HDX-MS for enzyme dynamics, metabolic profiling in pancreatic cells, lipid analysis in Drosophila models, and MALDI-MS imaging protocols. His research emphasizes translational applications in drug development, neuroscience, and plant biology. Abzalimov collaborates widely, with co-authors spanning institutions like UMass Amherst, NYU Langone Health, and international partners.

He leads facility operations providing cutting-edge analytical services to CUNY researchers and external partners, advancing interdisciplinary projects in structural biology, metabolomics, and biomaterials science.
