Rick Mills is a Professor at the University of Hawaii, specializing in sculpture with a focus on blown and cast glass, bronze, and welded steel. He holds an MFA from the University of Hawaii and a BFA from Ohio State University. His work has been exhibited globally, including at the International Glass Kanazawa (Japan), The Contemporary Museum (Honolulu), and the Museum of Northwest Art (Washington). Mills has created major public sculptures for the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts’ Art in Public Places Program, with installations at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Hawaii Convention Center, and Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Research highlights include fellowships at the Royal College of Art (London) and Pilchuck Glass School, where he taught glass casting. His awards include the Baciu Award and SFCA Individual Artist Fellowship. He currently develops large-scale cast glass sculptures for the Hawaii State Public Library in Manoa. Courses taught span introductory to advanced glass techniques, metal fabrication, and BFA/MFA seminars.
His works are in collections such as the Royal College of Art, Glasmuseum (Denmark), and DHX Corporate Headquarters (San Francisco).
