Marina Richter is a Professor of Sociology and Social Geography at HES-SO Valais-Wallis, leading the CrimSo research group. She specializes in carceral institutions, migration, and gender studies, with a focus on social work within correctional systems.
Her research explores the intersection of punitive systems and social work practices, examining spatial dynamics in prisons and reintegration challenges. Current projects include SNSF-funded studies on prison social work's role under increasing punitiveness (2022-2026) and probation experiences (2022-2023). She also investigates carceral turn phenomena across Swiss institutions (2022-2024) and regional social innovation in Oberwallis (2021-2023).
