Richard Wagner is a Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Associate Director of the Quantitative Methodology and Innovation Division at the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR), Florida State University. His research focuses on normal reading acquisition, dyslexia, and phonological processing. He leads the Florida Learning Disabilities Research Center funded by the NICHD. Dr. Wagner holds the W. Russell and Eugenia Morcom Chair of Psychology.
Research Interests:
- Neurocognitive mechanisms of reading development
- Early identification of reading disabilities
- Phonological processing deficits
- Developmental trajectories of literacy skills
Scientific Contributions: Pioneered probabilistic frameworks for dyslexia diagnosis and redefined dyslexia prevalence estimation. His work integrates meta-analytic approaches with neurodevelopmental research.
Grants & Leadership: Principal Investigator of NICHD-funded multidisciplinary research center. Serves on editorial boards of major literacy journals.
