Richard Unwin is a Professor of Disease Proteomics and Chair in Mass Spectrometry/Proteomics at the Division of Cancer Sciences, University of Manchester. He serves as Academic Lead for Business Engagement and Translation within the School of Medical Sciences and leads the Clinical Proteomics team at the Stoller Analytical Centre for Clinical Discovery. His research focuses on proteomic analysis of disease mechanisms, particularly neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s and age-related chronic diseases. He co-founded Complement Therapeutics in 2020 to commercialize research on complement cascade therapies.
Education:
- BSc (Hons) Biology, University of Nottingham (1994–1997)
- MSc Oncology (Distinction), University of Nottingham (1997–1998)
- PhD in Proteomics, University of Leeds (1998–2002)
Research Interests: Analyzing protein expression and post-translational modifications in diseases, developing proteomics tools for clinical applications, and studying biomarkers for diagnostics and therapeutics. Methodological expertise includes mass spectrometry, protein quantification, and targeted assay development.
