Dr. Richard Stephens is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at Keele University's School of Psychology. With over 30 years in psychology research, he specializes in the psychological benefits of swearing, pain tolerance, and alcohol-related studies. His work has been widely covered in media and earned him awards including the 2014 Wellcome Trust & Guardian Science Writing Prize and the 2017 BPS Book Award. Stephens has given 9 keynote lectures, 67 conference presentations, and 29 public science talks, including a TEDx talk. He actively contributes to academic governance, serving on BPS committees and as external examiner for multiple universities. His research extends into science communication, cognitive neuroscience, and the neuropsychological impacts of sports.
